Newcomers Club of Carmel ACTIVITIES |

The following is a list
of current groups open to members of the Newcomers Club of
Carmel. Specific info regarding the meeting times and locations
can be found in the newsletter. If you
are interested in joining Newcomers Club of Carmel or trying out some
activities before you join, call our
answering service at 317-252-9282. They will put you in touch
with the group leader of the activities you're interested
in.
Antiques: We meet the 2nd Thursday of the month to explore areas all over the state to find wonderful treasures. We have lots of laughs and get to see some great towns in Indiana. You do not need to be knowledgeable about antiques, just willing to have fun. Twice yearly we have a Tacky Gift Exchange and potluck dinner.
BOOK CLUBS:
Bibliophiles:
Bibliophiles meets the 4th Thursday of the month, including summer
months,
at 9:30 a.m. in a member’s home. Another member facilitates discussion of
the selected book.
Book selections include multiple genres, classics to best
sellers, fiction and non-fiction.

Book Worms:
The Book Worms meet the 1st Wednesday of the month, including summer
months, at
9:30 a.m. in a member’s home. Another member facilitates discussion of the
selected
book. Book selections include multiple genres -- classics to best
sellers, fiction and non-fiction.
The Library:
The Library book club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
Monthly book selection and meeting location are listed in the Newsletter.
Bowling: The bowlers bowl for fun; all skill levels are welcome. We have three-person teams, and the season runs from September to April. Note: this is not a sanctioned league.
BRIDGE:
Couples Bridge: We are a fun loving bunch that meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month
at 7:00 p.m. We are always looking for new substitutes and for couples who would like to
begin another group.
Couples Duplicate Bridge:
September through May, this group meets in members' homes
the 1st Saturday evening of the month. We are a social duplicate group that enjoys playing
bridge, eating,
and each other’s company but aren’t rigid in our rules. We’re always looking
for
new substitutes and for couples who would like to begin another group.
BUNCO:
Bunco: Daytime: This group meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
Bunco Squad:
This group meets the 1st Wednesday of the month in members' homes at
11:30 a.m. The hostess
serves a light lunch. Due to
space, the number of players is limited
to 12-16 players, so an RSVP to the hostess is a must. We always welcome new friends
as well as long-time acquaintances.
Casual Cooks:
This group meets in members' homes the 4th Wednesday of the month at
11:30 a.m.
Each member shares food they have prepared in keeping with a theme, along
with copies of the recipe. Specific information posted in the monthly
newsletter.
Current Events:
Current Events is a fun club, where each member brings a news article or
topic
to share with the group. If you don’t have an article, please come anyway and
join in
on the discussion. Everyone is welcome. The group meets the 2nd
Monday of each month
at 1:00 p.m. in members' homes.

EUCHRE:
Tuesday Euchre: This group meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at a
member's home for a pitch-in
lunch, followed by Euchre play until around 2:30.
'No-Lunch Bunch' Euchre: This group plays from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday
of each month in members' homes. At a separate time, we will also teach Newcomers who
want to learn how to play.
Financial Fitness:
This group explores various financial topics through reading, discussion,
and
guest speakers from different financial areas. Members meet the 3rd Wednesday of
the
month at 11:30 a.m. Check the newsletter for location.
Gardening: The Gardening group meets in the spring and summer, but on no specific date.
Check the newsletter for meeting plans. All Newcomer members and guests are welcome.
Golf:
April through mid-September, this group plays each Tuesday at golf courses around the
area. All levels of golfers are welcome. For more information,
consult the monthly newsletter.
Memoir Writing: Members meet at 1:30 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of each month to share what they've written on a previously assigned topic designed to leave a legacy for your children and grandchildren.
Out-to-Lunch Bunch:
The 3rd Tuesday of the month at 11:30 a.m., this group gets together to
eat and socialize. We eat at a different restaurant each month. This group is a great opportunity
to
check out the local restaurants, as well as to get to know
one another. Come as often as you
can. Specific information posted monthly in
the newsletter.
Couples Pinochle:
This night-time group is being formed for couples who would like
to play double deck pinochle. If you haven't played in awhile or
would like to learn, they will teach you.
SCRABBLE:
Scrabble: This group meets for lunch at
11:30 a.m. each Wednesday at MCL (NW corner
of Keystone & 116th Street) and
then plays scrabble until about 3:30 or so. Join us anytime,
no matter your level. We
will teach you the game and help you improve your skills.
Scrabblers:
This laid back group is for beginners or rusty players. It meets at 12:30 p.m. every
Friday at Barnes & Noble Bookstore at 14790 N. Meridian (west side of Meridian & Greyhound
Pass).
Tuesday Walking Group, Zionsville:
This group walks the scenic Zionsville Rail Trail,
starting at 9:00 a.m. We meet at the far edge of the Zionsville Christian Church parking lot
at 120 N. 9th Street. There we pick up the Rail Trail
and walk about an hour. Afterward,
we have coffee (optional) at the Eagle Creek Coffee Co. on Main Street in Zionsville. We
walk the trail year-round. Members receive
updates via email for weather plans.
Friday Walking Group, Carmel/Broad Ripple:
This group meets on Friday mornings at
9:00 a.m. for walking and then for coffee/tea afterward. We vary our walking locations, so
get on our group leader's email list and then check your email each week for details re:
location and directions.
Wine Tasting:
Enjoy a fun atmosphere for both couples and singles to get together and
discover
different wines and good conversation. September through
May, the group meets in a member’s
home the 3rd Friday at 7:00 p.m.
A different theme is planned each month. Attendees are
expected
to bring a bottle of wine under $20 in accordance with the theme and a
light appetizer
or
snack. RSVP is a must! Your hostess will give you the wine type and theme when
you call her.
